About the Campaign

Welcome to the Campaign!

Meet Joshua Pennington, Candidate for House Representative for District 33. Joshua is an up-and-coming leader looking to enact change in our communities through a traditional grassroots campaign. Joshua is here to serve, and he believes that together, we can create a brighter future. This is more than just a campaign for a candidate. This is a campaign for our communities.

Joshua's Main Priorities

Growing up in a family of volunteer firefighters, Joshua has firsthand knowledge of the value that our town's volunteer firefighters and other first responders provide to our communities. Not only do they protect us and ensure our safety, but they also bring our communities together, provide much needed resources, and are the beating-hearts of the small towns we live in and love. If elected he will seek to ensure that the needs of our first responders are brought to the attention of the Legislature. Joshua believes that establishing more funding and allocated resources will be key to ensuring that our first responders have what they need for our communties. In addition, he will support legislative effort to further recognition and support(s) where also needed.

Joshua understands the vital need to balance between building towards the future, while not leaving behind what makes our towns and communities so unique. Joshua will support efforts to preserve both historical and natural aspects of our towns. He will fight to protect our beaches, rivers, marshlands and agricultural industries. He will also prioritze the necessity of improving existing infrastructure within and around our towns, so that citizens may benefit from more accessibility. Joshua will also fight to improve water and sewer services, wherever possible, to help our neighbors have better access to clean water. He will also fight against unnessecary ventures which do not directly benefit the community-data centers, increased electricity rates, and unfair housing practices are not what our district needs. Joshua's priorities are the people of District 33, and future generations to come.

Joshua's personal experiences, and his professional experience in working with individuals with disabilities makes him a strong candidate to advocate for the needs and rights of those in our district who experience disabling conditions. Joshua has many beloved family members who are also senior citizens, who were pivotal in his upbringing. He understands that many of our communities are home to senior citizens who are faced with limited incomes and resources, and that they also face many challenges with rising costs of living and medical care. If elected Joshua will seek to support legislative efforts to broaden avenues for individuals with disabilities and seniors not only for the supports needed to live well and protect their interests, but to also protect their right to live meaningfully and share in the communities they live in. This means fighting for accessibility in the community, streamlining existing services, and seeking ways to better improve livlihood in the First State.

The most important thing a representative does, is listen to their constituents, and take their concerns seriously. Joshua is a firm believer in this idea, and will use this as a guiding point to any legislation put on the table. He will work to ensure he not only listens to constituents, but actively engages with them on the issues they are facing, and finding the right solutions to what matters most. Joshua will aim to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to share their voice, and that he will work directly with the community to make impactful changes. As an everyday tax-paying citizen, he knows how impactful legislation is, and that we cannot take anything lightly. For Joshua, the community is not simply part of the platform, but what shapes it.

Education is vital and central to our communities, and we must invest not only in our students, but in those who serve them everyday. Joshua believes in the value of our teachers, and the many staff who help keep are schools operating. From the personal experience of having a parent who served as a busdriver, to himself having worked in child nutrition, Joshua knows how much our schools rely on the selfless work of many proffesions. Joshua believes that fostering our education system means investing in our teachers, busdrivers, child nutrition programs, custodial staff, resource officers, mental health counseling, and the many others who contribute to a child's education. Joshua is committed to bettering our schools by advocating for the needs of students K-12 and the staff who serve them .

Many Delawarean's across the political spectrum are facing the same question, on many issues: How can we protect our rights, live safely, and live independently? These are basic things we all want for ourselves, no matter our background(s). While not every problem will have the same solution, Joshua believes that the key foundation comes from protecting individual rights while supporting individual responsibility. The constitution is the highest law of the land, and the foundational ideas of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" should be available to all citizens. The point is simple: Delawareans should be able to have the opportunity to live a life that supports these freedoms, while not infringing on the rights of others to have the same opportunities to live well. We must engage with the truth that "Freedom and Justice for all", is really for everyone, and establish the responsibility to maintain this truth by reaching common ground, fostering partnership, and working together. Legislation should reflect this key balance. Joshua will fight to ensure that legislation meets this standard everytime, so that the people always come first.

Mental Health affects everyone, and we cannot afford to leave anyone behind. Mental Health is a leading factor in several issues Delaware faces today: substance abuse, crime, quality of health, and crisis-only to name a few. Delaware must lead in improving mental health resources and services which can effectively offer the right kind(s) of supports needed for individuals at all levels of treatment. Joshua believes that we can seek improvements by promoting well-rounded mental health services in our schools, including grief counseling, and crisis support. He also believes that we must better tether the services provided between in-patient and out-patient supports, so that individuals do not get left behind on the care they need. Whether in-patient, out-patient, counseling services, or in other supports, individuals are deserving of help which best fits their needs. Joshua believes that we can do better to further the interests of mental health resources through legislative action, and focus on working towards advancing mental health services which are tailored to individual need, shelters from abuse, and meet(s) accountability measures based on empathy and holisitc care for the individual.
